The Nexis

Within the universe of Musarthis, The Nexis does not designate a mere act of acquisition; it is a strong act that engages a very deep posture; it is a way of entering into a relationship with a work that goes beyond established uses.

Derived from the Latin nexus, meaning link, attachment, connection, The Nexis names a precise act: the act by which a person establishes the recognition of a work while supporting the vision of the artist. This recognition is not limited to a spontaneous appreciation; it is an external validation and it relies on a progressive understanding that mobilizes several dimensions.

The Nexis is structured within an architecture of five dimensions. First, the sensory dimension; it corresponds to immediate perception, to what captures the senses without mediation. Then comes the intellectual dimension, where the work is apprehended as a construction, as an organized thought. The third dimension concerns the approach; it involves the recognition of an authentic path, of choices, of the internal coherence of the artist. Then, the dimension of support emerges, which implies an adherence to the vision carried by the work. Finally, the patrimonial dimension appears as a final stage only when the first four have been fulfilled; it derives from the others.

The Nexis shifts attention at a time when it is the patrimonial aspect of a work that is primarily valued in the art market; the value of a work here does not lie in the isolated object nor in its market dimension, but in the quality of the link established.

This link involves a responsibility, a form of inner attestation, which manifests itself through a conscious act.

Within this perspective emerges the figure of the assenteur or assentrice. The term, derived from the Latin assentire, refers to an adherence with conviction. The assenteur does not merely acquire; they recognize, they adhere, they attest. The assenteur, through their acquisition, recognizes a sensory, intellectual approach, adheres to it and attests to it.

Their engagement testifies to an understanding of the artistic approach and to a support of the vision it carries, independently of any reduction to market value.

Our role within Musarthis Art Gallery is to establish the necessary conditions in order to bring about the emergence of The Nexis.

For the artist or the artisan, The Nexis constitutes a strong act. It is not merely an external recognition, but a real engagement toward a vision, an approach and a construction. The Nexis attests that the work has been understood in its scope, received in its sensory and intellectual dimensions, and supported in what it proposes to the world. It thus confers upon the relationship between the work and the assenteur a particular density that goes beyond any strictly market-based reading.

The Nexis proposes a more intellectual, spiritual and symbolic relationship with the work. A structured, conscious act, situated at the intersection of the sensible, thought and engagement.

Within Musarthis, this vision participates in a broader reconfiguration of modes of artistic recognition. It opens a space where the encounter with the work is inscribed within continuity.

The Agnitia is the principal tool used to select artists and to highlight singular talents who propose an artistic approach for future assenteurs or assentrices.
